Snus and FarmersYou see, farmers back then didn?t have the modern conveniences that farmers today have. What we mean by this is there were no combines to harvest crops, automatic seeders or tractors. Most planting and harvesting was done by hand! Since the most popular way to use tobacco back then was pipe smoking, the majority of pipes were made of clay or meerschaum. If you?ve ever seen a clay pipe, they were not the most comfortable thing to hold between your teeth and were quite fragile. Since farmers back then needed the use of both hands, clay pipes were not the obvious choice to use in the fields. But the farmers found that using tobacco gave them a bit of an energy lift and helped them while they worked. |
